Is Aging a Cause for Memory LossMemory plays a major role in everyone’s life. If there is a loss in memory then he/she cannot remember things nor recognize people, places, etc. It’s a quite disastrous phenomenon.
But this too happens as we get older. Human brain can store various types of information. There are basically two types of memory. Short term memory is just recalling a phone number, or just recalling the things seen before 2-3 minutes. Long term memory is recalling the events that took place years ago in the distant past. Forgetfulness is quite common amongst the humans. This may occur due to stress and normal aging. As we grow older the cells do not function properly and there is inadequate flow of blood to the brain cells thus resulting in the malfunctioning of the brain leading to decrease in the memory power. The brain cell does not function properly and thus the cells do not divide and multiply at a faster rate. Thus resulting in memory loss or the loss in capacity to store or remember things. Thus aging process plays a major role in memory loss. This the main reason why we find old aged people taking sometime to recognize some people. This problem arises only at the age of 60’s. Also due to aging the people will have a bright idea about the things that took place in the distant past and this is the main reason why we find older people always talking about the events that happened in the distant past. So, it is quite natural that there is a loss in memory power as the age increases.
